Blog Response #11

When an author writes a book, he or she has a purpose as to why he/she is sharing this story.  This lesson or theme plays out throughout the book.  Share what you believe the author's purpose was for writing this book.  What lesson do you feel he/she wanted you to learn?  (In responding to other's blog posts, try to connect your theme with other's books.)

  1. I believe the author wrote this book to show the effects of family vlogging. She also wanted to express that even though someone may look okay on the outside on the inside they are really struggling. Throughout the book she struggled with her mental health and with her whole life was conveyed on videos on YouTube every waking moment and every embarrassing moment caught. She also never saw a cent through the videos that were created. She wants to change that and have family vloggers give partial pay to their kids as they mainly are the stars on YouTube. She also wanted people to hear her story after Ruby got arrested and what led up to those moments and her court sentencing as it was watched by many fans.

    1. this statement sounds very intriguing, what book are you reading? your book seems to focus on mental health and people hiding their emotions, is this book an easy read or is there times in the book where you just need to take a break from it?

    2. I can connect that to my book because in my book the main character Alicia went through traumatic things like when she killed her husband.

    3. i can connect this to my book night since when the world looked at what was going on in Europe they thought everything was fine but it wasn't in reality.

    4. That sounds miserable, to have every moment recorded. Our books are the same in the sense that they are exposing the truth.

  2. I think that the author's purpose for writing this book revolves around the idea that the truth is often far more complicated than what we want to believe. The characters actions throughout this book show that people are capable of both loving one another, while living a horrifying reality. And that sometimes those who seem the most trustworthy are hiding dark secrets. The lesson I think she wanted me to learn was that we need to consider the balance between trust and doubt, and also how to handle moral dilemma's that were faced by the characters through the entirety of the book. The author also explores between what is real and what is fabricated, and how far people will go in order to keep their loved ones in their lives. I think from this book I personally learned that nobody is who they say they are, and people are capable of far much more than what they portray to others.

    1. i can relate with your first sentence that the truth is often far more complicated than what we want to believe, i feel that that goes with my book as well, no one wanted to believe all the torture the jews were going through and i feel that that's why Elie wanted to share his story

    2. I can relate to my book where you said that some people who thing are the most trustworthy are hiding dark secrets because in my book there boat instructor who the kids trust turned there back on them and wanting kill them.

    3. I can relate this to my book with the Germans having secrets and not being trustworthy to the Jews how they lied about working hard will make them free and that never happened

    4. I can defiantly relate to your book when you said "sometimes those who seem the most trustworthy are hiding deep secrets". In my book Elon Musk's business partners go against him on many things and he find out some tough things that they've been doing.

    5. This book relates to my book "Confess" by Colleen hover a lot when you say that the truth is far more complicated that you think. When Owen a character in my book was going to prison for covering for his father he totally ghosted Auburn because he didnt wassnt her to see the darkness and lies in his life

  3. I think the authors purpose for writing the book night was to share his past trauma and really show the reality of the concentration camps. He had said that if he could write one book in his lifetime it would be the book Night. I believe he says that because his story was such an important one to share, he wanted to show everyone what it was like for jews and the hardships they had to push through.

    1. I read Verity by Colleen Hoover and our books are very different but I can relate my book to yours when you say that people suffered past trauma. I can relate past trauma to my book because one of the characters in my book "Jeremy," has past trauma from losing both of his twin daughters 6 months apart, and then his wife was faking an induced coma for a long time as well. And Jeremy is just trying to get back on his feet and try to live a normal life.

      Delete
    2. That theme is extremely similar to my book A Child Called "It" of sharing his trauma and telling his story that was a huge part of his life. I think its brave of the authors to share such traumatic life events.

      Delete
    3. The theme of sharing past trauma was very similar to my book. The main characters were experiencing one thing after another that caused them to have a lot of trauma. In my book they also try to share what is happening to them in their life trying to get the help that they need.

  4. I believe my author wanted you to know that you cant just do everything yourself and having other people help you is a good thing because in my book the main character Simion was a person that thought he could do everything his self and everyone else with him was so stuck up but after he got into some trouble and the other kids saved his life he realized they weren't stuck up rich kids they were a team and that's what saved all of them

    2. I can relate my book to yours when you say that you can't just do everything yourself and having other people help you is a good thing. In my book my main characters stays at someone's house and she's only supposed to for a week, but this guy helps her and says she can stay as long as she wants because she is struggling with money and has nowhere else to go if she were to leave his house. Your book sounds very suspenseful as well, which I can relate to as well because my book was too.

    3. I relate my book to yours when you say people cant do everything by their selves. Elon tried starting a business by himself and it all went good until he needed employees and someone to keep track of paperwork and especially manage things.

    4. Something similar happens in my book, night, Elie is taken with his dad and they stayed together until him father died and after that happened Elie seemed to give up, so having someone else really helped him.

  5. I believe that Elie wrote night not only to shear his story and what he went through but also to shear just how horrible things really were how bad the Nazis treaded people and especially children. Personally, I think that Elie along with many other holocaust survivors shear their stories in hopes that history doesn’t repeat it’s self but also, I believe it brings them peace so people around the world don’t forget them or the people that didn’t survive.

  6. I believe the author of my books purpose in writing this book was to show what actually happened to prisoners' in the war and to be able to explain what happened after and how happy to have little things like a took brush and things like that the prisoners' where i believe the lesson of this book was never give up no matter how hard times are or how bad things get in your life and that someone else always has it worse then you do

    ReplyDelete

    1. My theme is similar because the main character shares his experiences and it did get very dark at times but he never gave up. I disagree with the "someone has it worse than you" statement for my book because as awful as things got the main character never complained and he did everything he could to get by.

  7. I believe Alex Michaelides's purpose in writing the book The Silent Patient was to show people traumatic events can cause people to have mental problems. Because in this book Alicia didn't talk to anyone and she would have short moments when she would attack someone or just run away. But she would never have any emotion in her face. And I think it was when she killed her husband that it all started. A lesson I learned was that their are different ways to people that have mental illnesses. like some people you just talk to them but with Alicia Theo her psychotherapist had to find word that would get her attention.

  8. I believe the reason the author wrote the book about Elon Musk was to show how he became the person he is today. Today he is know to be rich and famous. In his early life Elon was not much of a known figure and he grinded hard to get his name out there. I think the author wanted to put out there, that nobody can become successful overnight without putting in effort.

  10. I believe the reason that Jennifer Li Shotz wrote the book book Hero to show that even if you think you cant do something to put our minds to it and we can get it done. like how Hero and Ben thought they can not train scout but they got it done and scout is like a bran new dog because he is so much calmer now.

  11. I feel like the reason Stephen King wrote The Mist to tell the readers that teamwork and togetherness is important in tense situations. The characters in the book were arguing all the time in the beginning, but in the end the remaining characters were able to escape and feel hope.

  12. I believe Dave Pelzer's purpose for writing the book A Child Called "It" was to spread awareness and to share his story/experience with child abuse. Dave had an extremely traumatic childhood due to the awful things his mother did to him. I assume Dave wrote this book to bring light to a dark topic and to create a safe place for other people who had gone through similar things. Or even with the hope of bringing awareness to this so maybe a teacher, student, or friend could step in if they saw similar things in someone close to them. I imagine a child living in an abusive home reading this book and feeling hopeful that everything will work out.

  21. my book Be Not Far From Me was created for just a good read. there is no strong moral purpose to the book, this book was created to give a fantasy of what some travelers may dream of. The humor in the book is directed more towards high schoolers and young adults. i don't think older people would of enjoyed this book as much as they wouldn't understand some of the jokes.

  26. In my book, The College Scam, the purpose of the book is to help people see that college is not the only path after high school and in does not guarantee success when looking for a job. He was trying to teach us that the value of a college degree has diminished greatly and now means very little when looking for a job.

  27. In my book, The Cabin, the purpose of the book that the author wants to share is to be careful with everything you do. The book talks about needing to pay attention to small detail with everything you do. I think another main part that she wants to share is to be careful with who you trust and share personal information with. There were lots of themes throughout the book but those two stood out to me the most.

  29. im reading the things they carried by tim obrian, i believe the main theme of my book is that of the emotions of a soldier, a deeper look into what war is really like, not like a hollywood movie, Tim dips into feelings of not belonging post war, and how the memories of the actual war are always scuffed, how theres no truth to a war story, although every bit is true to the soldier.

  30. I believe the purpose Colleen Hoover wants to show is that not everyone is perfect. By Owen and Auburn having their secrets and struggle. She shows along the way that not everyone's life is perfect and sunshine everyone has something they are going through.

  32. In the book night, i believe the purpose on why he wrote this book is because he wants to show the world really what went on and what he really witnessed in his life. I also believe that he wrote the book for a memorial of all the victims who died and all the ones who made it through. I feel that the author wanted us to learn that everything is not easy and everything can be done but wont be easy. I believe the over all thought of the book was to ensure that the holocaust was not forgotten.

  33. I think that Andrew Klavan's purpose for writing Crazy Dangerous is to relay the theme "Do right, Fear nothing". He makes this theme a point in every chapter of the book as Sam is trying to become a better person and always thinks back to this message whenever he has to make a decision. I think Klavan wanted his readers to take this theme and apply it to their lives as it could make any givin life better. Another point Klavan mightve been trying to get across is that little decisions can have big impacts, he shows this many times throughout the book and it is another theme readers could apply to their life.

  34. I think the purpose of writing The Witcher book was was to teach people to be able to fight for what they care for and to keep going despite being unwanted by the world and the people on it.

  35. I think the purpose being writing Not A Drop To Drink is about sacrificing a part of yourself if it means you can save others. I think this because in multiple situations my main character Lynn has put herself in danger or lost something because she wanted to save others. For example when Lynn shot her father to save everyone in the valley from dying. She lost part of her childhood by not having a father and then she had to kill him and any hope of having him in her life. She did this because he has hurt and killed a lot of people.
