The endings of Chinese Handcuffs, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Running Loose, and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?
if i had to write another chapter of stotan i would do it where jeff gets better and it goes to talk about college and they finally win one of the races and the high school team keeps going there are more people too join the team and it keeps up

DeleteI think the book you read leads you on to different things, and makes you want to keep reading. Did they win only one race throughout the book or multiple? What happened to jeff that he got better? And did Jeff go to collage, and why does the high school team keep going there and why are people joining? Is it a good team or what's so special about it?

Deletethis is a very wholesome ending that i don't think would happen in this book. this book seems like the kind to go doom and gloom over happy and i don't think all those things could switch that fast in a chapter and give a satisfying conclusion

Deleteafter finishing stotan i would defiantly give the book a closing because it leaves a lot to be wondered. if i were to write another chapter then it would explain what happens to a character called jeff who got i blood disease that prevented him form swimming. i would want to see if jeff actually dies or if he makes it and if he were to die how that would affect the dynamic of the there group. i would also like to find out what happened between Walker and Devnee, if they stayed together or if walker ended it between them.
ReplyDeleteMy book (Staying Fat) also left me wondering about a number of things as well. My book kind of sounds similar to yours in some parts. You said one of your characters got a disease which prevented him from swimming. I can connect this to my book when one of my characters got stabbed in the shoulder by his best friends crazy dad which prevented him from swimming at the finals for his swim team. He was also one of the best swimmers on his swim team. I also wonder if the characters in my book who were in relationships stayed together or if they didn't.

DeleteIf I had one last chapter in the book it would be about Jen's new feelings with her new family dynamic. Also, I would want more closure on how T.B did in court and to see if he was able to finagle his way out of a longer sentence or if they didn't listen to him and gave him the sentence he deserved. If I was the author I would tie up loose ends by doing some flashbacks about when Jen's bio dad when he left and then connect it to hearing what ends up with T.B. Then to end it all I would put Dillion and Jen together. I would also have Jen's mother also locked up and Jen and Dawn in therapy to help cope with the series of unfortunate events that had occurred throughout her life.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the author left you wondering about a lot of things. I can connect some of your book to mine because one of my characters also got sentenced to a long period in prison for the terrible things he did to his daughter while raising her. I can also connect my book to yours on the part where you would put some of your characters in therapy. I would put Sarah (my main character), in therapy to help her cope with all of the things she dealt with throughout her life. I think that both of our books left us wondering about a lot of things. Do you think your story would end the way you want it to if thee author wrote more about it? I think mine would end somewhat similar to what I said in my response.

DeleteI read the book Staying Fat. At the end of the book he tells a little bit about the characters future and what lies ahead of them, but he doesn't tell me everything that I wanted to know. If there were one last chapter to the book I would want to know a lot of things. One being if Erics mom and her boyfriend stayed together, and if they got married or took their relationship any further. I would also want to know if Eric and Jody stayed together as well since they were going to colleges on the opposite sides of their state. I would also want to know if Sarah got surgery done to her face. In the epilogue it mentioned that someone said something to Sarah about getting surgery, she wasn't to excited about the thought of it, but its a possibility that she might've. I would also like to know that after the 20 years that Virgil had to serve if he got out or if he didn't. I would hope he didn't but I think he might have. The last thing I would also clarify is if Sarah made a decision on where she is going to college at, and if she moved. Because at the end of the book she was just staying with the Lemry's until she figured out what she wanted to do. Those are some of the loose ends I would tie up.

Jen would be confronting T.B. about his actions in the past towards Jen. it would be a good chapter in court. it could be a great resolution for the book and i am curios how long T.B. would be in prison for. Jen and Dillon could be a good relation ship.
ReplyDeleteI also read Chinese Handcuffs. I don't think they'd do anything to T.B. I feel like he would get his way with everything, or lie his way out of the situations, and problems he has caused. but i agree Dillon and Jen would be a good couple, if Dillon would know everything about Jen, and her past.

DeleteI read the book Running Loose if there was another chapter it would be about Louie going to break the plague out again and how Track has helped him and the friends he has made because of it then him going off to college. it would be a good way tie up the end of the story because it would show what Louie has decided to do after school and if he got a scholarship and who he's made friends with because of track.

DeleteI agree with you, it would be interesting to see how his life is after high school. I would like to find out who his friends would be and if he does go to collage. I think track was very important in his life because it opened up fresh start for Louie and showed him many new things in life.

And I would be curious how he would react to being confronted by Jen, and her mother. And also i think Jen and Dillon would work out if these things didn't happen to Jen, she would get flashbacks if Dillon would try and do something. I would tie up the loose ends by having Jen and dawn in therapy as well to get their thoughts out and to help cope their events that have happened throughout their lifetime in this book.

I think you are right about Jen and Dillion being together and how hard it would be for Jen, but I would like to see her work passed it and them end up happy together. Do you think that Jen's mother would not believe her again or that she would take her daughter's side this time? And what do you think happens to Stacy?

DeleteIn the book Stotan, I would write more about how Jeff was doing. I would talk about the group and I would talk about what happens to jeff who got a blood disease. It prevented him from being part of the team. I think I would want to see if jeff dies or if he makes it and if he did die how would it affect the group. I think I would also want to know if Walker stayed with Devnee. Another thing I would want to find out is if Nortie's dad goes to jail for Abuse. And if Nortie's mom and him are safe for good.

Deletein the book running loose, if there was another chapter it would include luie going and breaking the plack again then luie getting a scholarship to go run track for collage then washionton would be on the same track team this would be a good way to tie up all the loose ends. maybe even boomer and carter could go to that collage for football. becouse we dont know what sport washiton will play in collage.

DeleteIf there was a different ending to the book Chinese hand cuffs I would have it so that Dillon and Jen would have had grown to trust each other again and have Dillon also take care of Stacy's baby once he learned it was his dead brothers biological baby.
ReplyDeleteAfter finishing Running Loose I would definitely write another chapter to close up the book. I would talk about what Louie did after high school and about his future. I would talk about if he goes to collage or if he goes to work. I would defiantly talk about if he gets another girlfriend and if she is as good as Becky was. An important thing that would be talked about is where he moves to and who his friends will be.

DeleteSounds like you really liked the book. It seems like you really like the character Louie. I have never read this book, but from the way you said the last chapter would go, I would be interested in reading it.

DeleteI am reading Stotan and i choose norite because even thought the other boys have a rough home life besides walker, norite was the one to stand out the most for me. Like any other family he has a mom and a dad an a brother. But what most people dont realized is that his father is an abusive person, to him and his mother and his brother. Norites brother had enough of the way he was being treated by his own dad so he decide to end his life. While Norites dad is abusive, him and his mother dont want to leave, but walker and the other boys from the swim team get norite and his mother away from his dad. I am reading Stotan and i choose norite because even thought the other boys have a rough home life besides walker, norite was the one to stand out the most for me. Like any other family he has a mom and a dad an a brother. But what most people dont realized is that his father is an abusive person, to him and his mother and his brother. I hope Sarah did or will get her face fixed since she is adopted and can start her second chance at life after what happened. And I am not sure if they are still together. Good question.

DeleteI read the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. It didn't really leave me with any questions. But if I had to write one more chapter about the book, I would talk about how Sarah grows up now that she is adopted and whether she still is in relation to Moby. I think that would fit the story best because of the whole storyline during the book.

DeleteI read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrne's. This book left you on many cliff hangers, the big one i want to know about would be what Sarah did the rest of her life. Did she ever get her face fixed? Because her dad isn't controlling her life anymore sense he is in prison and wont get out for 20 years. Will she move out of the Lemry's house and go to collage because at the end of the book she was still living with them and had not decided on a collage yet.

ReplyDeleteThe book I read was Stotan. If there was another chapter to this book I think that Walker would first fail to break up with Devnee for the 100th time. Then I think that he would have Jeff die from his blood disease. I think that he would have him die instead of live because all of his friends, like Walker Lion and Nortie, have basically accepted that he is going to die by using their stotan training from max to come to terms with it. After that I think Lion Nortie and Walker would all commit to the same college for swimming because they are great friends and they are all they really have, so I'm convinced they would want to stay together.

Deleteif there was one more chapter in stotan i feel an epilogue would be what fit most. walker would've broken up with devnee, jeff would (probably) be dead, and the gang would be prepping to go to college either together or separately. i feel like an extra chapter could have easily clear up a whole host of problems and unanswered questions

DeleteIf i had one more chapter in the book Running loose i would give more further detail on what happened with Louie after he beat Washington in the 2 mile for track like did he go to regionals after that did he end up winning state i would base the last chapter on more on now Louie did in track because i think the book didnt explain it that well at all. I would also make the last chapter dedicated more towards Madison to because without him Louie wouldve never went out for track.

This was a very good response since they were all intersting potential outcomes.

ReplyDeleteI read the book Running Loose. The book left us with a lot of questions at the end. It was a very good book but the cliffhanger at the end of the book made me mad because I wanted to know what would have happened. If I could write one last chapter at the end It would be about what happened to Louie. I wonder if Lendnecky knew Louie was watching and left to see if Louie would come out. The last chapter would continue and say what happened to Louie and whoever ended up breaking the plaque and the consequences that they would face. I would also add what Louie ended up doing with his life. I would would write about Louie going to college to run track and how far in life that got him.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great response i agree with you and it would be very intersting if someone was watching louie break the plaque or seen him at all. because if someone saw him do it and snitched on him for doing that i would be very curious to see what the punishment would have been for it.
Deletei read the book Running Loose. The book ended with Louie grabbing a sledgehammer after he knew the principal Mr. Jasper was camping in his office with a shotgun waiting for Louie to do something to his school. Louie waited for Mr. Jasper to leave, and then he went to the school. The book ends there so what i think should happen is Louie destroys the school and leaves his mark on the town almost like a legacy so that everyone will remember him and can tell stories of a kid who stood by everything he said and never backed down from anything. I wish that Louie could have made state and won it so the story could be just a little longer and so that jasper has to acknowledge that Louie was a great athlete. That is how i believe the book Running Loose by Chris Crutcher should have ended.

DeleteI read the book stotan and if I were the author I would probably take a darker approach to the ending were jeff would end passing away and motivating walker, nortie, and lion to train harder and win more competitions. I would also have so norties dad would get arrested for all the abuse, walker would stay with devnee and not elaine. The ending would be sad because jeff died but everyone's personal life's would improve.

Or even have him convicted, as well as seeing Jen and Dillon start a relationship and Dillon to forgive Preston for killing himself. Throughout the book he hated Preston for it and it would be good to see Dillon understand and even help Stacy raise the upcoming child
ReplyDeleteI read Running Loose, I think I would make the last chapter about Louie doing something about the principal if he puts the plaque again. I would have Louie and the principal have some kind of altercation and maybe have Louie talk about future plans and how he might commemorate his girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteThe book I read was Stotan, If i had to write the last chapter of the story I would start off where it left off and have Walker break up with his girlfriend. With Jeff starting to get better and feeling well again and everyone goes to see him. I would like it to end with all of them together at Jeffs house having a good time.
