Blog Response #2

Choose a character from your book.  How do you envision this character?  Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves.  Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her?  Why? What role does this character play in your book?  If this character was not in the book, would the book change?  Why or why not??  (Remember to give  specific details  and a complete blog entry, and  don't forget to comment on  two  other blog entries!   Happy Blogging! :)

  1. my character is Jen, she's tall, strong, and athletic, she's well behaved but she always acts like everything's okay when really she has a lot of at home problems, if she was not in the book i feel that there wouldn't be as much conflict because half of the conflict in this book deals with her moms boyfriend raping her.

  2. I'm reading stotan and i choses Norite he has a past his family life is not the best his dad is abusive but they wont leave. i think he plays a big role in the book because he's right now one of the main problem's happening. he is on the quitter side but still talks a a lot. i think it would change the book if he wasn't in it because he's on of the main focuses right now.

  3. My character name is Louie, he is a young man that focuses on his values and those values guide his actions, Louie is a tough man but also struggles with the opinions of others in his small town, without Louie this book would be completely different, being he is the narrator of the story and the story revolves around his life.

  4. my character is Dillon. i look at Dillon to be a determined individual who is athletic but doesn't have a goal for sports, in fact it seems as if he despises sports and his school. But i think he is determined to be better than his brother in everyway possible. i would not be friends with Dillon just because he is so blank. So far he has been a solid impact on the story. His brother had killed himself and you get to read the thoughts Dillon truly has about his brother and his cowardness. Now i am seeing Dillon possibly fall into love.

  5. I'm reading Stotan and the character I'm pick is lion. he is a senior in high school and he is very energetic, he is always making jokes and trying to make everyone happy. i think he has a very big impact on the story since without him i believe that the group would be as strong without him, when things get tough he's always there to motivate the team and keep there spirits high, and makes them look at things differently especially when they get harder. personally i have no clue if i would be friends with this character considering at times he seems a lot to deal with. specifically i think he pulls everything together in a good way.

  6. The character i chose was Dillon, he's tall, built good, smart, athletic ect. he's been behaved and worrying about Jen, and why she's falling apart. i would be friends with this character, because he cares for his friends, and is respectful. their wouldn't be much conflict in this book, most of the conflict deals with Dillon, and his problems, or Jen's problems that he's trying to figure out. if it wasn't for Dillon.

  8. my character is Nortie he is tall, skinny and on the Stotan swim team. He is quiet most of the time but can also be energetic. Nortie is important to the book by being the type of friend that supports people. He has a lot of trauma in his life so if Nortie wasn't in the book the trauma with the other characters would not make sense. I would probably want to be friends with him because he is a good friend to the other characters in the book.

  9. stotan is my book. a character from it is lion (yes that is his name). he sets fires in people's hearts (figuratively) and fires in cafeterias (literally). peeps would be less motivated without this mans (i think i don't remember much of this snooze fest). i don't know how the book would change without him but i bet it would be for the better because there would be less characters to remember (mostly forget) and less words to read.

  11. i choose becky i believe she plays a big part in the book because she i the one who makes louie open up and stand up for him self with football and tells him to not let boomer get to him she makes louie a better person and changes him in a good way though out the book. i would not change much about her in the book other then her ending because i would like to see how she could of changed the book or what would of happened between her and louie.

  12. I'm reading Running loose and my character that I'm picking is Boomer he is a tall and big kid that is very athletic and probably the best kid on the football team but he is very cocky and likes to play dirty like his coach to win every football game. Boomer is a very rude kid that nobody likes besides the coach and Boomer is always picking on the main character Louie which is the totally opposite of boomer and he wants Louie to quit football and bullies him all the time I think this character puts a big impact on the book because then Louie would not have quit football and it would not be drama on the team.

    2. I agree with what you said about Boomer. He is very cocky and I think without him in the book, there wouldn't be many challenges in Louie's life, making the book blah. I think everyone probably knows of a person similar to boomer in real life.

  13. My Caracter is Walker ( the main character in Stotan) he is good at swimming and has a good group of friends. his buddies Norite, Lion, and jeff all are on the swim team with Walker. His other friend Elaine (who he has a crush on) is not of the swim team but likes to be around the rest of them. Walker has a girlfriend and he name is Devnee who he wants to break up with. i don't think i would be friends with this character, he seems a little odd. Walker seems to be the leader of the swim team so i do think this book would be different without him

  14. My character is Jeff. He is tall and strong, he has been through base camp training and pretends like he is better than everybody else because of it. 15. Becky in running loose is a nice and caring person who will do anything to help Louie. Becky is a cheerleader and she is described as one of the best looking girls in the school she wants to always be with Louie. Her impact on the story up to this point is that she would stand up for Louie no matter what and she got him to stand up for himself. I would be friends with this character because she is nice to almost everyone. she is Louie's girlfriend and a cheerleader for the school. Without Becky the book would change completely and because she is the one to get Louie to open up more and stand up for himself and others

  16. Virgil Byrnes is a cruel and guiltless character in my book. (staying fat for Sarah Byrnes) Virgil is Sarah's dad and it was revealed that in the heat of a fight with Sarah's mom, Virgil held Sarah's face into a stove and burnt her. Not only did he hurt her but he did not allow any reconstruction surgeries to happen. Sarah has to be reminded of a traumatic moment everyday just by looking in the mirror. Virgil is huge part of the book because he is the reason Sarah isn't talking, to get away from him. I would never want to be friends with someone like Virgil and I would stay as far away as I could, just like Sarah does.

  17. The character I have chosen is Moby from Staying Fat for Sarah. He is an overweight guy named Moby. but he loses weight to get on the swim team, becoming more physically fit. The impact that Moby has on this story is big, playing the role of a semi-main character, knowing everyone. From visiting Moby in the hospital to talking with Dale. I would be friends with him because he seems like a nice dude. This book would change a lot if he wasn't there because Moby and Sarah both created the story by talking about the newspaper and having the conflict of bullying with Dale.

  19. My character for the book running loose is Boomer he is a bigger kid and running back for the football team and 1 of the 2 best players on the team. He is a very cocky kid and will bully anyone if he wants to. He listens and does whatever the coach says like how in the book he sends a kid from the other team into the hospital. Boomer also hates Louie and if it wasnt for Carter Louie would get picked on and beat up by Boomer every day. But without someone like him in the book there wouldnt be much thrill in it so i think he fits in with the story very well.

The only thing Boomer is good at is sports. The impact Boomer has in the book is major because if it wasn't for him hurting an opponent then the main character Louie wouldn't have quit the team. 21. I am reading Staying Fat and I am choosing Sarah to write about. Sarah got burned by her father when she was younger so she has scars on her face. The book describes her as a heavier set person as well. She is usually a very spunky and outgoing person and doesn't really fear a lot, but right now she is shutting down because her dad abuses her and ran away to a ward to try and get away from him. The character has had a huge impact on the book because Eric, the main character, bases himself solely around her. He didn't want to lose her as a friend when he started getting skinny so he ate a lot to stay fat for her. I think I would want to be friends with her because she always stands up for what she believes in and her friends as well. The book would not be the same without her because the whole title is based off of her and her best friend Eric.

Louie is an independent person and makes his own decisions. Louie has basically told the whole story, and made the book very interesting. I can relate to Louie as I'm in high school and have played football just like he has. I believe he is a good kid and I think I could make friends with him if he was real.

  26. The character that I choose is Stacey. I envision her to be a average height girl with a cool tone brown hair. She has an innocent tone and behaves like a valedictorian. But, she also has some not so trustworthy parts about her. She has played a pivotal point in the book so far by being Preston's girlfriend. She also has been having a change in character over the book as a whole. If this character was not in my book I believe that Preston would not have killed himself and there would be no plot to the story. I think that I personally would be friends with Stacey because she is kind of like the friends that I have now but towards the end of the book the way she handled things I think that our friendship would turn rocky and maybe even disintegrated. The role she plays is kind of a plot twist character that ties more things together while also creating confusion for Dillion.

  27. For my character, I picked Carter. I think he's a decent height and I think he's a humble and understanding person. Throughout Running Loose, he gives Louie lots of help and advice to help his situation with either football or Becky. He also protects Louie, as he said that he'd beat up Boomer if he laid hands on Louie. I would try to be friends with him because he's a respectable person and he gives good advice. If he wasn't in the book, I think Louie would be in a really bad spot for the whole book.

He is a very strong person too, to keep moving on with his life and act like almost nothing has happened after he's lost both of his parents. Another reason I picked him because he is always their for his team and there to help them. He also is constantly telling them that they can do better and they can work harder, make themselves better. Lion is someone that I could see myself becoming friends with if given the chance

I think boomer is a bully that nobody actually likes but they have to be nice to him because they are scared of what he would do to them. Boomer has had a big impact on many people in the book so far with how they have to act when they are around him. If Boomer was someone at my school I would avoid him because he is mean to everyone and brings them down. This character plays a big role in the book because he is the star on the football team so everyone know who he is. 35. My character is Jen. She is a star basketball player and very athletic. I picture her with long dark brown hair and she is tall. she is always calm and confident and I think she would be nice to everyone she talks to but she doesn't go out of her way to talk to many people. I think she does really well in school and keeps herself busy so she doesn't have to think about her home life. she is kind of viewed as a love interest for Dillion but it never goes past the first date. she is pretty important to the story considering Dillion is trying to help her get away form her stepdad. I don't think I would be friends with Jen, I mean if I had a class with her I might talk to her but I wouldn't go out of my way. The story would change a lot without Jen because almost the whole second half of the book is about her and how her stepdad is abusing her.

  36. Im reading staying fat for sarah byrne and the character i choose is Virgil Byrnes. Virgil is a mean person he burned his daughter with a piece of burning wood and would not take Sarah to get the right medical help she needs. He was never there for her when she was in the mental hospital. He he just a very cruel person I would stay as far away from him as possible.

  37. the character i pick Louie. in the book running loose. he has a lot of ambition and love for football but he did not let that get in the way of his morals. Louie is a good kid that cares about everyone, not just his friends and team mates. he has gone through a lot loosing his girl friend to a car accident. I would defenitly want him to be my freind. becouse we have both suffered simmiluler events and is a all around great guy and is the back bone of the book.

  38. I am reading Running Loose and the character I chose was Louie. Louie has lots of love for the game of football but also knows right from wrong. Louie cares about all people not just the ones close to him that is why I would like to hang out with him because of the compassion he has for others. Louie's role in the book is the main protagonist, the book follows Louie threw life. without Louie, running loose would be severely different.

  39. I am reading running loose and the character i choose is Louie. The reason i chose Louie is because he did the right thing by standing up for the kid on the other team by yelling at his coach and basically telling his coach of and the principal for have the team cheat and try to take out a kid for be better at football.

  40. I choose Nortie only because I feel like he has had the family background and that he isn't really scared to have people know what is going on in his life. I feel like he has a huge part in this book because of how his dad is abusive and how his mom won't leave but it only takes his friends to get him to where he needs to be for the meets, they have. this book would change if he wasn't tin it only because I feel like he is kind of the main character besides Walter.

  41. The character I choose is Dillian from Chinese handcuffs. The reason I chose this character is because he has to deal with family problems and problems with his friends that causes him to sometimes get angry and lash out at his principle who seems like he wants Dillian to do more with his life than run in marathons.
